I think this oak sat for something like five or more years after being cut down. The sap wood was somewhat soft and rotted but the heartwood is still completely solid. Appearances can be deceiving, sometimes you have to look beyond the surface in or

The tree had been down for quite a few years before we got out hands on it and my buddy had to make a few phone calls to get us permission to take it. Because of how long it sat there it had some issues with cracks and such but the color is this stuff is beautiful. I’ve been feeling especially grateful lately. There has been a lot of uncertainty in the air for a lot of people, my household included. With life flipped upside down I’ve leaned pretty hard on this craft to get me through. I’ve been pretty lucky to have this outlet during these times, if I’m feeling anxious about the state of the world or just need something to do because we can’t go out like normal, I can always throw a piece of wood on the lathe and drift away for a couple of hours.
